Why This Area Is Different
A station that spent its first year under somebody else's identity
When this station opened its doors in 1990, nobody actually called it City Thameslink. The original name was St Paul's Thameslink, a sensible enough choice given the cathedral's proximity. Within a year, though, commuters kept confusing it with the Central line's own St Paul's station nearby. The confusion got serious enough that operators simply renamed it in 1991. City Thameslink, plainer and clearer, stuck from then on. That wasn't even the first plan for this particular patch of ground. Decades earlier, planners had intended an entirely different station here, to be called Ludgate Circus, part of a scheme on what eventually became the Jubilee line. That project collapsed in 1970. Two decades passed before anything actually got built on the site.
The station that did finally emerge carries its own quiet oddities. It functions purely as a through-stop. Trains simply pass on to other destinations rather than terminating here. Even so, City Thameslink is officially classified a London terminus, purely for ticketing purposes. Its early success proved strong enough that engineers built in a genuine interchange connection. This linked it to the Underground alongside it. Even so, that connection has never actually opened for use, not once, despite still existing physically beneath the surface today.
A Viaduct Worth Painting, Then Pulled Down
Even so, before any of this, an older railway viaduct ran directly across nearby Ludgate Hill, carrying trains in full view of the street below. The French artist Gustav Doré captured the scene memorably in his illustrated book on London. He depicted Fleet Street and Ludgate Hill heaving with Victorian crowds and traffic, while a train billowed smoke from the bridge above. That viaduct came down entirely in 1990, cleared to make way for the tunnel this station now sits within. We're concerned with something considerably more straightforward. A lock near City Thameslink gets fixed properly. It doesn't matter what name or scheme once attached to the ground nearby.

What Businesses & Residents Near City Thameslink Call About
What this area brings us
Offices Near A Busy Commuter Hub
A dense group of commercial tenants defines this area, close to the station itself. Security here reflects that density, approached individually, not generically.

Older architecture survives nearby. It stands in genuine contrast to the station's own modern tunnel below. We treat each on its own merits, never a one-size approach.

Even so, trade here rises and falls with the daily volume passing through the station. A prompt lock replacement matters here, since downtime means lost custom fast.

Even so, a few residential entrances still sit among the offices here. Each gets its own check, never lumped in with the units nearby.

Older locks on this stretch can grip a broken key stubbornly. Our guide shows exactly how we handle that safely.

This area empties out fast once the commuter rush winds down. That timing makes no difference to us, at any hour.
Call nowTwo jobs sit outside what we do: cutting duplicate keys, and configuring a building's own card or intercom access. Both belong with the managing agent's own suppliers.
Locked Out Near City Thameslink
A commuter surge, then a genuinely quiet stretch
Daytime brings heavy commuter traffic here, following the station's own timetable closely.
Once that rush fades, the area empties fast. It's far quieter than its peak-hour bustle would suggest.
Neither pattern changes how we work. Every gentle technique gets a genuine try before a drill is ever considered necessary.
A snapped key and a lost one call for entirely different approaches. Our broken keys and lost keys pages set out exactly how each gets handled.

What Gets Scrapped, Renamed, Or Simply Never Used
A station built from other plans' leftovers
Few stations carry quite this many false starts. A cancelled scheme, a hasty rename, and an interchange nobody's ever used, all sit beneath one unassuming entrance.
The station's naming history and its early confusion are covered by this detailed account of City Thameslink itself. The older viaduct it eventually replaced is traced further by this record of the line's own history.
We're less interested in false starts ourselves. A lock near City Thameslink gets fixed properly. It doesn't matter what scrapped scheme or renamed station sits nearby.

Access & Traffic
Getting to you around City Thameslink
This area carries heavy commuter traffic all week. That traffic ties directly to the station's own busy footfall. Loading restrictions apply throughout.
The station itself sits right at the centre of this coverage area. Both the Ludgate Hill and Holborn Viaduct entrances offer quick routes in on foot.
Weekday mornings and evenings bring the sharpest surges. The middle of the day stays steadier. We plan each visit around whichever pattern applies.
Why People Call Us
What City Thameslink's tenants and residents rely on us for
- We judge the door in front of us. A station's own past name tells us nothing about what it needs now.
- Gentle methods always come first. A drill is strictly our last option, not our default.
- Comfortable with dense commuter footfall. Working near a major interchange doesn't change our approach.
- Residential work gets full respect. A home callout matters just as much as any commercial one.
- We're upfront about scope. Spare keys and access-card programming aren't jobs we take on.
- Available whatever the hour. Peak commute or a dead quiet night, we answer either way.
